Beaumaris kicks off the Christmas Season with a festival of Christmas cheer and goodwill. Stalls dotted around the town are an opportunity to start your Christmas shopping and at the end of the afternoon a special visitor turns up to lead a procession along the High Street for the Christmas tree lights to be switched on
Wrap up warm and head out to blow away the cobwebs and soak up the scenery. The stretch of coast that the town sits on offers great walks and some fantastic pubs. Beaumaris is a great place for a Boxing Day walk and some excitement. In a traditional throw back to the days of the Boxing Day hunt, the Mayor of Beaumaris scatters hot pennies from the balcony of the Bulkeley Hotel while children rush around to collect them.
We particularly like The Bull on Castle Street. It has a lovely snug, lively bar and is what we would call a “proper” pub. It should be, as the building has been operating as a pub and inn for 400 years! Think wholesome and warming food, roaring fires and traditional Welsh ales. Not only can you get a great pint, they put on a good show over New Year.
On New Year’s Eve the tradition is to ring out the old and ring in the new. As the clocks strike midnight to bring another year to an end in Beaumaris, the castle is lit up by a dazzling display of fireworks. Join the crowds in Castle Square to admire the show and welcome the start of a 2020.
Beaumaris is a great place to head to at any time over the Christmas and new year period. In addition to the many events that the town put on, if the water on the Straits is calm enough you might be able to take a boat out to Puffin Island and see some of the beautiful wildlife.
Anglesey has so much to offer, we think it is time to pay us a visit!
